Our School

Duncan's Martial Arts Academy is the culmination of over thirty years of martial arts training by Professor Edward R. "Rudy" Duncan. After spending many years training in a variety of styles ranging from Aikido to Tae Kwon Do and Kali-Escrima, Professor Duncan began teaching Kempo around 1980. Over the next 20 years, Professor Duncan taught in several locations such as Geddes, Camillus, Baldwinville, Court Street, and the North Area Athletic Club on Pond Street in 1998. As part of the North Area Athletic Club, the focus of Professor Duncan's teachings became the youth of the surrounding neighborhood. While teaching at the North Area Athletic Club, Professor Duncan had a policy of free martial arts instruction for anyone under 18 years of age allowed the Academy to positively impact the lives of many "at risk" youth. Professor Duncan and the Instructors are very proud of the students that came to that location and how they have grown to become positive role models.

In 2004, Duncan's Martial Arts Academy moved to a new location on New Court Ave, Professor Duncan and his instructors continue their dedication to the students and families providing affordable quality instruction.

In 2011, Duncan's Martial Arts moved to it's current home, providing its students with two separate training floors and a brighter feel. Located on 835 W. Hiawatha Blvd., in Syracuse, just minutes from the notable Carousel Mall.

Professor Duncan and his staff are committed to teaching students of all ages and backgrounds that martial arts has more to offer than the physical skill. We stress the benefits of developing a strong and positive character through goal setting, hard work and perseverance. This isn't just focused on our kids, but in all of us, to help each individual deal with the day-to-day challenges and struggles that they may face in their lives. To this end, we feel that training at Duncan's Martial Arts Academy builds the character needed to become a role model and positive influence in our community.

The objective of our program is to develop well rounded martial artists, who have both the historical knowledge of their art as well as the ability to use it in an emergency situation. Professor Duncan often invites masters of other styles to the Academy to guest teach. This allows the students to gain additional martial arts knowledge beyond the Kempo realm.
